1. How does the system work?
The energizer in the control unit produces high voltage impulses of approximately 8000 volts once every 1.2 seconds. The impulse lasts for approximately 300 millionths of a second and has a current of up to 10 amps. The energy available is measured in joules. The International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC 60335-2-76) states the maximum allowable energy in joules when measured into a 500-ohm load. Ibex Gallagher Electrified Security Systems comply with the requirements of IEC 60335-2-76 as a minimum standard.
The Control Unit monitors each sector's output and compares this to a returned impulse. The integrated control system logic detects the return impulse voltage. Alarm thresholds can be programmed on each sector to alarm at 2 or 4 Kv, when the drop in returned voltage would signify tampering with the system, either by placing a load across or trying to short circuit the wire grid.
2. Is it lethal?
It is not lethal. Ibex Gallagher Security Power Fence™ System comply and exceed all the requirements of national and international standards of safety.
3. What happens when small babies come in contact with the fence?
The child gets a short, sharp, painful but safe shock. In order to avoid the child getting entangled with the fence wires, it is important that a chain mesh fence is used along with the full fence. This is a statutory requirement.
4. What happens when old and weak people come in contact with the fence?
They get a shock. In order to avoid the person getting entangled with the fence wires, it is important that a chain mesh fence is used along with the full fence. This is a statutory requirement.
5. Can monkeys and/or other animals die due to the Power Fence™?
As mentioned earlier anybody coming in contact with the Power Fence™ will get a sharp, painful but safe shock and having installed more than 15000 animal control fences across the country we have had no cases of death.
Note: These answers are based on our experience and the minimum code of practice in design, manufacture and installation (which exceeds the requirements of International Electrotechnical Committee for safety requirements of electric security fences) of Ibex Gallagher Security Power Fence™ Systems. This cannot be generalized for all kinds of electric fences
